Aga Khan Health Service, Pakistan, is looking for a competent Consultant Pediatrician / Neonatologist based at Aga Khan Medical Center, Booni, Chitral.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Clinical Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive medical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care to pediatric and neonatal patients.
• Manage common and complex pediatric conditions in accordance with evidence-based clinical guidelines.
• Provide specialized care to neonates, including premature and low-birth-weight newborns.
• Assess and manage neonates and children presenting with acute and life-threatening conditions.
• Manage neonatal and pediatric emergencies and provide timely stabilization and referral when required.
• Provide care for neonates with respiratory distress and other conditions requiring respiratory support.
• Initiate, monitor, and manage appropriate respiratory support, including CPAP, as per clinical indication and approved protocols.
• Participate in neonatal resuscitation and emergency response.
• Ensure appropriate use of investigations, medications, antibiotics, and other therapeutic interventions.
• Ensure timely referral and escalation of patients requiring higher-level or tertiary care.
• Maintain complete, accurate, and timely medical records and clinical documentation.
• Ensure continuity of care through effective communication with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.

2. Neonatal and Paediatric Service Development

• Support the development and strengthening of pediatric and neonatal care services at the facility.
• Contribute to the implementation and standardization of clinical protocols, pathways, and guidelines.
• Support the strengthening of neonatal respiratory care services, including the SVN/CPAP program.
• Participate in the development of safe and effective systems for neonatal stabilization and referral.
• Identify gaps in pediatric and neonatal services and recommend appropriate improvements.
• Contribute to service planning and initiatives aimed at improving access, quality & patient outcomes.

3. Capacity Building and Clinical Mentorship

• Provide clinical guidance, mentorship, and supervision to medical officers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
• Support the training and competency development of staff involved in pediatric and neonatal care.
• Participate in neonatal resuscitation, CPAP, and other relevant clinical training activities.
• Conduct or facilitate clinical teaching sessions, case discussions, and bedside learning.
• Promote evidence-based clinical practice and adherence to standard treatment protocols.
• Support continuous professional development activities for the pediatric and neonatal care team.

4. Quality Improvement and Patient Safety

• Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives related to pediatric and neonatal services.
• Conduct and participate in clinical audits and review of clinical outcomes.
• Participate in pediatric and neonatal morbidity and mortality reviews.
• Identify opportunities for improving clinical outcomes and patient safety.
• Promote rational use of antibiotics and support antimicrobial stewardship initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control practices.
• Promote adherence to institutional policies, clinical protocols, and regulatory standards.
• Support data collection, monitoring, and reporting of relevant pediatric and neonatal quality indicators.

5.Preventive & Community Health:

• Promote child health, growth, and development through education, counseling, and preventive interventions.
• Support immunization, nutrition, and school health programs.
• Participate in community outreach, health promotion, and public health initiatives related to child health.

6.Administrative & Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Ensure compliance with hospital protocols, patient safety, and infection prevention and control policies.
• Participate in departmental meetings, audits, and morbidity/mortality reviews.
• Supervise and mentor medical officers, residents, and nursing staff in the paediatrics department.
• Contribute to the development and review of paediatric clinical guidelines and protocols.
• Performs any other tasks as assigned by the Line Manager.

Qualifications & Experience:

• MBBS degree from a recognized institution with /FCPS /MD Pediatrics/Neonatology with valid PMDC. Fellowship in Neonatology will be preferred for Neonatologist.
• Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in Paediatrics at a reputable healthcare institution.
• Experience in both inpatient and outpatient paediatric care preferred.
• Neonatal and emergency paediatric experience will be an added advantage.
• Strong clinical expertise in diagnosing and managing paediatric and neonatal conditions.
• Excellent communication skills and compassionate approach toward children and parents.
• Sound judgment and decision-making ability.
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
