The Aga Khan Health Service, Pakistan (AKHS, P) is seeking an experienced Aya, reporting to the Senior Admin Officer.

Summary of the Role

The Aya provides basic patient care support, maintaining cleanliness and hygiene of wards and patient areas, assisting nursing staff in day-to-day ward operations and supporting infection prevention measures to ensure comfort, safety and dignity of patients in the hospital.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist patients with feeding, bathing, dressing and mobility under the supervision of Nursing staff to support patient comfort and daily care.
• Assist patients with the safe use of beds, wheelchairs and stretchers to prevent injury and promote safe mobility.
• Maintains patient comfort by providing water, changing linen and keeping the bedside environment clean and organized.
• Maintains patient privacy, dignity and respectful communication to promote compassionate patient care.
• Cleans patient beds, bedside tables and surrounding areas to maintain a clean and hygienic patient environment.
• Sweeps and mops ward floors to maintain a safe and tidy ward environment.
• Cleans and disinfects ward washrooms and handwashing facilities in accordance with infection prevention and control standards.
• Replace bedding and linen and maintains adequate stocks of clean linen to support uninterrupted patient care.
• Washes soiled linen in accordance with standard operating procedures to maintain hygiene and infection prevention standards.
• Adheres to infection prevention and control policies while handling patients, equipment and ward materials to promote safe clinical practice.
• Segregates and disposes of clinical and non-clinical waste in accordance with institutional waste management procedures and standard operating procedures.
• Uses personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, aprons and masks, in accordance with infection prevention and control requirements.
• Cleans and disinfects patient-contact surfaces and equipment in accordance with environmental cleaning protocols to reduce the risk of infection.
• Assists in preparing beds, linen and essential supplies for new patient admissions to ensure patient readiness.
• Performs any other tasks as assigned by the Line Manager

Eligibility Criteria

• Primary or Middle School Education.
• 6 months of relevant experience, preferably within healthcare systems or large service organizations.
• Basic knowledge of infection control, hygiene and safe handling of contaminated materials.
• Physically fit and able to handle heavy loads and stand for long hours.
• Ability to follow instructions and maintain attention to detail.
• Good hygiene practices and discipline in following hospital protocols.
• Results-driven, ethical and adaptable professional with a strong service and stakeholder focus.
• Strong integrity with the sensitivity to manage confidential information.
• Demonstrates superior organizational skills and the agility to multitask and assume changing strategic responsibilities in a dynamic environment.
• Possesses strong integrity, intellectual humility and demonstrable expertise in navigating ambiguity and constant change.
• Shows resilience, flexibility and perseverance, especially during challenging periods.
• Culturally sensitive, inclusive and respectful of diverse populations, reflecting the global values of the AKDN.
