8 months (3 days in a week)

 

2.     Overall Purpose/Broad Function:

Nutrition International is implementing Leveraging Pakistan's Social Protection Programmes for Adolescent Girls' Nutrition (SOPRAN) project in Pakistan. The SOPRAN project is leveraging the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) for empowering adolescent girls who are recipients of BISP’s Taleemi Wazaif Program to become agents of change by enhancing their knowledge on adolescent nutrition.

 

The position of the Technical Consultant will provide technical support and quality assurance for implementation of all activities of SOPRAN project. The position holder will be a subject matter specialist with expertise in adolescent nutrition and social and behavioural change interventions.

 


3.     Key Duties and Responsibilities:

 

 

With guidance from the Country Director, National Project Manager – SOPRAN project, and Nutrition International’s global programs team, the technical consultant will be responsible for the following:

1.     Conduct technical review of TORs, training package and modules, project reports, deliverables, and other documentation 

2.     Guide formative research to generate behaviorally informed data and insights, guiding gender-responsive BCI, focusing on adolescent needs to become change agents for better nutrition for adolescents.

3.     Finalize the update and contextualization of the Behavior Change Intervention (BCI) strategy for the SOPRAN project, ensuring it is informed by formative research findings and is gender responsive. This process will involve leveraging research insights to develop context-specific, evidence-based strategies, tools, and activities aimed at promoting improved nutrition behaviors among adolescents.

4.     Provide support for developing innovative change agent model in Pakistan to empower adolescent girls as nutrition advocates for their own nutrition, including supporting workshops and design activities for peer education and advocacy.

5.     Provide technical review and guidance for development of BCI products that are evidence based and appealing to specific audiences, including nutritional messages, guides, and multimedia content (videos, posters, social media), tailored for adolescent girls and their influencers to promote improve adolescent nutrition and health. Ensure all materials are gender-responsive, accessible, and aligned with local food systems and adolescent health needs and adolescent motivations and insights from Formative research.

6.     Support design and development of an implementation model for a nutrition education package, including training modules, to increase understanding of adolescents, teachers and frontline workers to increase capacity to understand and address nutritional needs of adolescent girls and empower them to become agents of change for their own nutrition. Guide a process to co-create content with girls for relevance and ensure government partners have access for delivery and scaling.

  1. Serve as a resource for capacity-building efforts aimed at stakeholders (staff, teachers, health workers, and community leaders) through training and mentorship to ensure the effective and sustainable implementation of SBC.
  2. Any other specific tasks assigned by the Country Director as required.

5.     Education/Professional Designations/Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Social and Behavior Change Communication, Nutrition, or a related field required. A PhD in a relevant field will be given preference.
  • At least 5-7 years of experience in designing and implementing BCI strategies, particularly in the maternal, adolescent and child nutrition and health sectors.
  • Experience in training and building the capacity of staff, partners, and community groups related to nutrition.
  • Experience in leading formative research and utilizing evidence to inform program strategies.
  • Strong experience in developing educational materials, products, and facilitating community-based activities.
  • Good understanding of nutrition, and/or experience in working with governments and multiple stakeholders would be a plus.
  • Skilled in program and budget management.

 

6.     Language Skills:

  • Fluency in English and Urdu is required; proficiency in additional regional languages (such as Pashto, Punjabi, Sindhi, or Balochi) is preferred.

 

7.     Travel Requirements:

  • Periodic travel to project sites for field visits, stakeholder meetings, and training sessions as needed.

 

8.     Other Specific Skill Requirements:

  • A result-oriented approach and proven ability to manage and coordinate complex programs.
  • Quick learner with a positive attitude.
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written). Excellent English writing and editing skills.
  • Good computer skills, including MS Office programs, including excel.
