About the role:

Develop and manage model farms showcasing climate-resilient and sustainable agriculture, including modern irrigation and tunnel farming for off-season vegetable production. Train farmers and households in innovative techniques such as climate adaptation, kitchen gardening, and organic farming to enhance food security. Conduct research, coordinate with stakeholders, and provide technical support to promote efficient, eco-friendly farming practices.

Your Job Responsibilities will include

1.     Model Farming & Sustainable Agriculture

• Manage a model farm, demonstrating best agricultural practices, climate-resilient farming, and  

           modern irrigation techniques.

• Develop and promote climate-smart agriculture, including drought-resistant crops, efficient   

           water usage, and organic farming.

2.       Tunnel Farming & Off-Season Vegetable Production

• Develop tunnel farming systems to support off-season vegetable cultivation.
• Train farmers on high-yield, cost-effective tunnel farming methods.
• Ensure proper management of temperature, irrigation, and pest control for tunnel farms.

3.     Climate Adaptation & Resilience Building

• Introduce climate adaptation strategies to mitigate the effects of drought, floods, and changing weather patterns on agriculture.
• Promote the use of bio-fertilizers, water conservation methods, and regenerative agriculture.
• Conduct climate risk assessments for agricultural production and recommend solutions.

4.     Kitchen Gardening & Home-Based Food Security

• Train households and farmers on kitchen gardening techniques for self-sustaining food production.
• Promote the use of composting, organic fertilizers, and pesticide-free gardening.

 5.    Capacity Building & Farmer Training

• Conduct workshops and training sessions for farmers on modern and sustainable agricultural techniques.
• Develop educational materials and manuals on model farming, tunnel farming, and climate-

           resilient agriculture.

• Support farmer field schools and demonstration plots for hands-on learning.

 6.    Research & Development

• Stay updated on the latest agricultural technologies, trends, and climate-smart innovations.
• Conduct research on crop diversification, soil health improvement, and water management  

           strategies.

• Develop and test innovative farming models suitable for local climate conditions.

 7.    Coordination & Reporting

• Collaborate with government departments, research institutions, NGOs, and private sector      

           partners for knowledge-sharing and technical support.

• Prepare progress reports, impact assessments, and recommendations for improving agricultural  

           interventions.

Job Specification:

Education:

• Bachelor's degree (16 years of education) in an agriculture-related field.

Work Experience:

• 3 or more years of relevant experience.

Skills and Competencies:

• Proficiency in local languages.
• Experience in community development programming.
• Knowledge of organic pesticides, soil, crop, and pest management.
• Strong community engagement, trust-building, and partnership development skills.
• Advocacy & stakeholder communication skills.
• Data collection, analysis, and reporting skills.
