SCOPE OF WORK (Two research Assistant for WASH Compilation and Position Paper)

 

Section 1: Scope of Work

 

  1. A.       SHRRP Background

 

The Sindh Housing Recovery and Reconstruction Platform (SHRRP) is the Platform of all stakeholders engaged to support Sindh People’s Housing for Flood Affectees (SPHF) in the housing reconstruction and settlement recovery process. The goal of SHRRP is “Flood families live in resilient homes and communities in Sindh.” The SHRRP will provide support to SPHF to support strategic planning, coordination and cooperation with the national and international Organizations, the private sector, and public associations engaged in post-flood Sindh housing recovery process. The platform will ensure that SPHF led technical assistance and information management are streamlined, disseminated, and communicated at all levels. Prioritizing Fund-raising strategy and flexible resource mobilization to cover up gaps and provide necessary capacity building support to SPHF and partners is the major objective of the platform.

 

  1. B.     Objective

 

The Research Assistant (intern) will assist in conducting systematic research to support the development of a comprehensive WASH position paper for Sindh, focusing on water supply, sanitation, hygiene practices, policies, challenges and recommendations and support in developing the comprehensive study.

 

In line with this SoW objective, the Research Assistant is responsible for:

  1. 1.      Literature Review
  • Gather and review existing research, reports, and policy documents related to WASH in Sindh.
  • Summarize key findings, trends, and gaps in existing literature.
  1. 2.      Data Collection and Analysis

 

  • Collect secondary data of WASH, including government reports, NGOs, and international organizations.
  • Conduct KIs and meetings with relevant WASH actors (government, Civil Society, humanitarian and UN organizations).
  • Support analysis of disparities, socio-economic factors, and demographic influences on WASH.
  1. 3.      Stakeholder Mapping
  • Identify and document key stakeholders in the WASH sector, including government bodies, NGOs, and community organizations.
  • Provide a summary of their roles, contributions, and challenges.
  1. 4.      Policy and Program Assessment
  • Evaluate existing WASH policies, programs, and their implementation status in Sindh.
  • Highlight successes, challenges, and recommendations.
  1. 5.      Documentation and Writing
  • Draft sections of the position paper, based on research findings, under guidance from the supervisor.
  1. 6.      Support in Workshops and Consultations
  • Assist in organizing and documenting workshops or consultation meetings with stakeholders, if required.
  • Prepare notes, summaries, and follow-up action points.
  1. 7.      Presentation and Reporting
  • Develop visual presentations (e.g., charts, graphs, and infographics) to summarize findings.
  • Provide weekly updates on progress and submit a final report summarizing all contributions.

Deliverables

  • Comprehensive literature review on WASH in Sindh.
  • Database of key stakeholders and their roles in the WASH sector.
  • Analytical summary of existing WASH policies and programs.
  • Drafted sections for the WASH position paper.
  • Visual presentations of research findings.
  • develop a format for compiling lessons learned from partners and communities
  • Visual presentations of lessons learned.
  • Produce a compilation document for WASH lessons learned.
  1. C.    Relevant Documents / Links to be shared.
  • Terms of Reference (TOR) of WASH-TWG.
  • Other SHRRP/SPHF related documents.

 

Basic Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge

  • Educational Background: Recently completed a degree in Water, Public Health, Environmental Science, Social Sciences, or related fields.
  • Skills: Strong research and analytical skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or data analysis tools; excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with WASH concepts, public policy, and dynamics in Sindh is an asset.
  • Required Languages - Required proficiency in written and speaking in English, Urdu, and Sindhi.

 

Travel – The position will be based in Karachi and must be willing and able to travel to rural areas of Sindh. SHRRP will provide all travel related expenses where required per travel policy.
